Astros’ Late Surge Completes Three-Game Sweep of Rangers

HOUSTON — The Texas Rangers battled back to pull even, but the Houston Astros answered with their biggest inning of the afternoon to finish off a three-game sweep with a 7-3 victory on Sunday.

After Texas erased a three-run deficit and tied the game in the seventh, Houston immediately responded. The Astros broke the deadlock with a four-run rally, highlighted by Yordan Alvarez’s two-run double, to put the game out of reach and continue their recent surge.

Alvarez delivered one of his best performances of the season, going 4-for-5 to match a career high in hits while driving in two runs. Jeremy Peña stayed hot at the plate as well, launching a home run and extending his hitting streak to 14 games.

Houston starter Peter Lambert retired the first 12 Rangers he faced and struck out eight over 5 2/3 innings before Texas mounted its comeback. The Rangers finally broke through in the fifth and later tied the game in the seventh, but their momentum was short-lived as the Astros’ offense answered immediately.

The Rangers managed just six hits in the loss and couldn’t contain Houston’s lineup, which collected 15 hits and outscored Texas 23-9 during the weekend series.

The victory capped Houston’s sixth straight win and completed an impressive turnaround that has pushed the Astros into first place in the American League West. Texas, meanwhile, heads home looking to regroup after being swept by its division rival.
