CLEVELAND — Jacob deGrom bounced back from an early mistake to deliver another impressive start, leading the Texas Rangers to a 4-2 victory over the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday night at Progressive Field.
After allowing a two-run home run to Kyle Manzardo in the first inning, deGrom retired 19 of the final 20 batters he faced. The right-hander worked seven innings, allowing two runs on three hits while striking out nine to earn his seventh win of the season.
Texas erased an early 2-0 deficit in the third inning when Joc Pederson launched a two-run homer to tie the game.
The Rangers took the lead in the seventh after Cleveland’s Cooper Ingle accidentally threw a live ball into the stands following a sacrifice fly, allowing Ezequiel Duran to score on the unusual defensive miscue.
Josh Jung added an insurance run with a solo home run in the eighth, while the Rangers’ bullpen closed out the victory to extend the club’s winning streak to six games.
