TOLUCA, Mexico — FC Dallas closed out the Leagues Cup Phase One on Wednesday with a 3-1 loss to Toluca FC, struggling to match the home side’s intensity in Dallas’ first game in Mexico in more than nine years.
The match marked FC Dallas’ first meeting with Toluca and its first Leagues Cup game played in Mexico. Dallas had not played in the country since April 5, 2017.
Petar Musa provided Dallas’ lone goal, scoring his first career Leagues Cup goal, but Toluca controlled much of the match and earned a deserved victory.
Dallas is now 1-2-0 all-time in official competition in Mexico.
“The crowd was amazing. The stadium energy was outstanding,” FC Dallas coach Eric Quill said. “Toluca performed tonight much better than we did in pretty much every phase of the game. So they were deserving winners tonight.”
The defeat capped a difficult night for Dallas, which found itself under pressure for long stretches against a Toluca side energized by its home crowd.
For FC Dallas, the match also provided a valuable test in a difficult road environment as the club continues its season against international competition.
