SMU Beats Cincinnati 76-71

DALLAS, Texas — SMU beat Cincinnati 76-71 Thursday evening. The Mustangs are 21-7 overall, and 2nd in the American Athletic Conference with 1 regular season game to go. The Mustangs have been outstanding through the beginning of March, boasting an undefeated record in their 15 home games. SMU split with Houston, the AAC leaders and lead Memphis by half a game.

The Bearcats end their regular season on a 5-game losing streak, 7-11 in AAC games and 17-14 overall. Cincinnati Guard, David DeJulius led the Bearcats with 21 points, fellow Guard, Jeremiah Davenport followed with 17-points, including. 3 3-pointers.

SMU Point Guard, Kendric Davis scored well above his league leading average (19.3), putting up 25-points, including 13 of 14 from the free throw line. Marcus Weathers’ 6 double-doubles lead the AAC, but it was his brother, Michael with SMU’s double-double of the night. Michael Weathers had one of his best games of the year, scoring 19 points and adding 11 rebounds for a double-double. Marcus Weathers and Emmanuel Bandoumel also scored in double-digits for the Mustangs.

SMU will honor their senior class of 6 in a pregame ceremony before their regular season finale against Tulane on Sunday. The class includes Davis, Emmanuel Bandoumel and the Weathers twins. If the Mustangs beat Tulane, they finish 2nd in the conference regular season standings and stay perfect on the season in Moody Coliseum.

The Mustangs earned a 1st round bye and will be seeded 2nd or 3rd going into the quarterfinal game of the Air Force Reserve American Athletic Conference Championship. The tournament will be held the week after the end of the regular season at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth March 10th-13th.
