SMU Defense Leads Mustangs Past Boston College, 25-16

DALLAS — SMU leaned on its defense Friday night, defeating Boston College 25-16 and extending its strong run under coach Rhett Lashlee.

The Mustangs recorded 13 tackles for loss and five sacks while forcing three fumbles and recovering one. Marques White had three sacks and three tackles for loss, tying career highs in both categories.

Kevin Jennings completed 20 of 30 passes for 160 yards and two touchdowns while adding a rushing score. He connected with Randy Pittman Jr. and Derrick McFall for touchdowns, while Kendrick Raphael added a 2-yard rushing score.

Jennings also extended his SMU career records for total offense, completions and touchdowns responsible for. He now has 9,925 career yards of total offense, 742 completions and 81 touchdowns responsible for.

SMU finished 4-for-4 in the red zone and held Boston College to 7-for-16 on third down.

The victory improved the Mustangs to 42-17 under Lashlee, 16-3 in ACC play and 9-0 in home ACC games. SMU has also won 31 of its last 37 regular-season games.
