LEXINGTON, Ky. — Dallas Trinity FC controlled more than half of the possession but couldn’t turn that advantage into goals, falling 3-0 to Lexington SC on the road.
Dallas finished with 17 shots, but only two were on target. Lexington managed 12 shots and put five on frame.
The result leaves Dallas 0-1-0 against Lexington this season and 5-3-2 all-time in the series.
Dallas held 53% of the possession and showed more attacking pressure as the match progressed. The visitors created several opportunities in the second half, including crosses into the box, but couldn’t find the finishing touch needed to get back into the match.
Head coach Lee Nguyen said Dallas needed to do a better job of finding open space and moving the ball from one side of the field to the other.
“I think we had trouble today trying to find the spaces, and our switch point of attack could be better,” Nguyen said.
Nguyen pointed to the second half as a positive, noting that Dallas created more chances in possession and generated opportunities around the Lexington penalty area.
“We had chances in the second half to get one,” he said. “There were crosses in the box that we weren’t able to get on the end of.”
Fifteen players saw action for Dallas in the physical road contest.
Despite the three-goal margin, Nguyen felt the final score didn’t fully reflect Dallas’ performance.
“For me, the 3-0 result doesn’t reflect what I saw from the performance on the field,” Nguyen said.
Dallas will look to bounce back when the road trip continues Oct. 10 against Brooklyn FC at Maimonides Park in Brooklyn, New York. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. CT.
