DALLAS — Kevin Jennings delivered a record-setting performance Saturday night, and SMU used a big offensive outing to defeat Missouri State 34-24 at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
The No. 22/25 Mustangs improved to 3-1 with the victory, finishing with 592 total yards, including 464 through the air and 128 on the ground. Missouri State managed 239 total yards.
Jennings completed 33 of 39 passes for a career-high 464 yards and three touchdowns. He also added a rushing touchdown and finished with 467 yards of total offense.
The senior quarterback completed 21 consecutive passes, setting an SMU program record. His 464 passing yards moved him into the top four for a single game in school history, while his 467 yards of total offense rank among the best individual performances in program history.
Jennings also continued to climb the SMU career record book. He now has 9,162 career passing yards, 722 completions and 78 touchdowns responsible for, all program records.
Yamir Knight was Jennings’ top target, catching 11 passes for a career-high 164 yards and a touchdown. Jalen Cooper added eight catches for 125 yards, while tight end Theo Melin Ohrstrom caught three passes for 49 yards and two touchdowns.
Kendrick Raphael provided balance in the running game, finishing with 98 rushing yards and a touchdown. He also caught four passes for 48 yards to finish with 146 all-purpose yards.
SMU’s defense supplied pressure throughout the night, recording a season-high seven sacks and 11 tackles for loss. Tavion Atkinson had two sacks, while Brandon Booker added 1.5 sacks and an interception.
The Mustangs now turn their attention to ACC play. SMU hosts Boston College at 11 a.m. CT Saturday, Oct. 3, at Gerald J. Ford Stadium.
