FORT WORTH, Texas — TCU’s offense struggled to find its rhythm Saturday night as the Horned Frogs fell to BYU 17-10 in a game dominated by both defenses.
The Horned Frogs managed only 20 yards in the first quarter, their lowest first-quarter output since 2019. BYU also limited TCU’s offense throughout the game while finishing with just 62 passing yards, the fewest TCU has allowed since Oct. 21, 2017, against Kansas.
The Cougars entered the game ranked among the nation’s top 10 and produced only 101 total yards in the first half. According to TCU, that was the lowest first-half total by a top-10 opponent against the Horned Frogs since the 2014 Peach Bowl against Ole Miss.
TCU did manage to keep one of its most notable streaks alive. The Horned Frogs have now scored in 425 consecutive games, the second-longest streak in NCAA history behind Florida’s 477-game run.
Kari Ashley provided one of the few offensive highlights for TCU, recording 108 receiving yards and a touchdown. The performance was the second-highest receiving total of his career and gives him three of the top four receiving games by a TCU tight end over at least the last 32 years.
Hudson Hooper led the Horned Frogs defensively with eight tackles, matching his career high from the previous game against UCF. Paul Oyewale added six tackles, his highest total of the season.
TCU also got a standout performance from punter John Hoyet Chance, who blasted a career-long 66-yard punt that was downed at the BYU 1-yard line.
The loss leaves the all-time series between TCU and BYU even at 7-7.
TCU will now have to regroup after an offensive performance that produced just 10 points, despite a defense that kept the Horned Frogs within striking distance throughout the night.
