ARLINGTON, Texas — Dak Prescott made Cowboys history Sunday, throwing four touchdown passes as Dallas defeated the Washington Commanders 37-20 at AT&T Stadium.
Prescott’s 24-yard touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb in the fourth quarter gave him 249 career touchdown passes, moving him past Tony Romo for the most in franchise history. He completed 26 of 31 passes for 279 yards and finished with a 143.8 passer rating.
“I’m blessed. Honored,” Prescott said. “It’s my time to break this one. Pretty cool.”
The milestone carried added meaning for Prescott because of his respect for Romo, whom he called the example of what a Cowboys quarterback should be.
Prescott also credited his teammates and the players who helped him reach the record.
“This one’s about people, man,” he said. “This life’s about people. It’s about loving and caring and people and being there for somebody.”
Lamb delivered one of his best performances of the season, finishing with six receptions for 153 yards and two touchdowns. His second touchdown gave Prescott the record.
Jake Ferguson added two touchdown receptions, while Brandon Aubrey connected on three field goals, including a 60-yarder.
Dallas’ defense also responded after struggling in the season opener against New York. Rookie linebacker Jaishawn Barham forced his first career fumble, which was recovered by Dee Winters, and the Cowboys made several key red-zone stops.
Prescott said the biggest difference was the team’s ability to start fast.
“We definitely played better. We started faster,” Prescott said.
The victory improved Dallas to 1-1 and extended Prescott’s impressive record against Washington. He is now 14-2 against the Commanders and has won 20 consecutive home games against NFC East opponents.
For Prescott, though, the record was only another milestone.
“As I said, this is just the beginning,” he said.
