FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Stars are keeping forward Sam Steel in the fold.
General manager Jim Nill announced Monday that Steel has signed a four-year, $14.8 million contract extension. The deal carries a $3.7 million annual average value and begins with the 2027-28 season.
Steel, 28, is entering his fourth season with Dallas after signing as a free agent in 2023. He has recorded 82 points in 229 games with the Stars while becoming a key contributor on the penalty kill.
His 450:11 of shorthanded ice time since joining Dallas leads all Stars forwards during that span. Steel also set career highs in 2025-26 with 12 goals, 21 assists and 33 points.
Steel has 175 points in 491 career NHL games and has appeared in 48 playoff games, helping Dallas reach the Western Conference Final in 2024 and 2025.
