FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb understands the emotions that come with playing under the brightest spotlight in the NFL. After Dallas opened the 2026 season with a 28-20 loss to the New York Giants, Lamb stressed the importance of controlling those emotions while using the loss as motivation to improve.
Speaking to reporters Thursday, Lamb addressed the intensity surrounding the Cowboys following the loss and the attention surrounding an emotional sideline exchange involving teammates.
For Lamb, frustration is a natural part of competing at the highest level. Players can become upset when they miss an assignment, fail to make a play or feel they haven’t done their jobs. What matters, he said, is how they respond.
He also pointed to the importance of teammates checking on one another during those moments.
“You kind of have to toughen yourself up,” Lamb said, describing the emotions players experience during a game. He added that taking a moment to gather yourself and checking on a teammate can be important when emotions are running high.
Lamb said players are constantly being evaluated, including while standing on the sideline. That makes emotional control particularly important.
He described his own routine when he needs to reset during a game: walking the sideline, thinking through what happened and eventually returning to his coaches once he has had an opportunity to regroup.
The Cowboys’ limited offensive opportunities in the second half against New York made that patience even more important. Dallas had only two offensive possessions after halftime, but both ended in touchdowns.
Lamb said the lesson is to maximize every opportunity.
“Making the most of every opportunity that we do have” is especially important in a game where a team never knows when it will get the football back, Lamb said.
Rather than treating the Giants loss as something that defines the season, Lamb emphasized preparation, execution and eliminating mental mistakes.
That means tightening alignments and assignments, limiting penalties and being ready for whatever an opponent presents.
Lamb also pushed back on the idea that the Cowboys should simply prepare harder because they lost their opener. He said that level of preparation needs to be the standard every week.
“You got to be able to take the good with the bad,” Lamb said, explaining the reality of playing for the Cowboys. The franchise’s visibility means everything is scrutinized, particularly when things go wrong.
The receiver said that pressure is part of wearing the Cowboys’ star and something he embraces as an opportunity to become a better player.
For Lamb, preparation remains the foundation. Repetition during the week gives him confidence when he reaches game day, allowing him to recognize coverages and play instinctively rather than overthinking each situation.
With Dallas preparing for Sunday’s matchup against the Washington Commanders, Lamb is eager to return home to AT&T Stadium.
He expects the atmosphere to be electric and said he is looking forward to giving the crowd something to celebrate.
The Cowboys enter Week 2 focused on correcting what went wrong against New York while building on an offense that produced touchdowns on both of its second-half possessions.
For Lamb, the message is straightforward: learn from the loss, stay level-headed, prepare for the next challenge and make the most of every opportunity.
