ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers rallied from an early deficit to beat the Boston Red Sox 7-3 on Wednesday night at Globe Life Field, extending their winning streak to four games and moving back to .500 at 76-76.
The victory also put Texas into a tie with Houston for first place in the American League West, the Rangers’ first share of the division lead since Sept. 1.
Boston scored twice in the first inning on Willson Contreras’ two-run homer, but Texas answered with RBI hits from Jake Burger, Justin Foscue and Wyatt Langford to tie the game at 3.
Brandon Nimmo put the Rangers ahead in the seventh with an RBI double to right-center. Ezequiel Duran followed with a two-run single as Texas scored four runs in the inning.
Nathan Eovaldi delivered the decisive performance on the mound, throwing four scoreless innings in relief. He allowed one hit, walked none and struck out one while retiring 11 consecutive Red Sox hitters to finish the game. Eovaldi earned his 11th victory of the season, tying Jacob deGrom for the team lead.
Burger went 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Josh Jung finished 3-for-5 after returning from the injured list Saturday. Jung is batting .389 over his first four games back.
Texas has now gone 7-0-1 in its last eight home series and will try to complete a sweep of Boston in Thursday’s series finale.
