ARLINGTON, Texas — Brandon Nimmo delivered the biggest offensive performance of the night, and the Texas Rangers continued their strong run at Globe Life Field with an 8-5 victory over the Athletics on Tuesday night.
The Rangers have won three straight after dropping four in a row, while also securing their sixth consecutive home series victory. Texas has not lost a home series since July 9.
Nimmo went 4-for-5 with a double and five RBIs, driving in a run in each of his first four plate appearances. His five RBIs matched the second-highest total of his career, while his four hits matched his season high.
Nimmo also collected his 31st double of the season, placing him among the American League leaders. Since Aug. 4, he is hitting .571 with runners in scoring position and owns a .340 average in those situations for the season, the best mark on the Rangers.
Corey Seager continued his productive return from the injured list, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI, a walk and three runs scored. Seager has hit .307 with three homers, eight doubles, 10 RBIs and a .868 OPS in 28 games since returning.
Wyatt Langford added two hits, including a double, after snapping an 0-for-15 stretch with a fifth-inning single. He is batting .323 over his last nine games.
Gore delivers another strong home outing
MacKenzie Gore earned his eighth win, allowing one run over 5⅓ innings. He surrendered five hits, walked four and struck out four while throwing 95 pitches.
Lawrence Butler’s two-out RBI single in the third inning accounted for the only run charged to Gore.
Gore lowered his home ERA to 2.89 and extended his scoreless streak at Globe Life Field to 14 innings. The Rangers’ starting pitching has been particularly effective in the series, following Jacob deGrom’s seven scoreless innings in Monday night’s opener.
Texas starters have combined for 12⅓ innings while allowing only one run through the first two games of the series.
Rangers continue to thrive at home
The victory improved Texas to 40-29 at Globe Life Field this season, giving the Rangers one of the American League’s best home records.
Texas also improved to 45-3 when scoring first and producing at least four runs, a record that ranks as the best in baseball.
The Rangers are now 6-6 against the Athletics this season. Wednesday’s finale will determine the season series.
For the Athletics, the loss was their fifth straight. They opened September after going 8-20 in August, the worst winning percentage in the majors during the month.
Lawrence Butler kept one positive trend going for Oakland. His RBI single extended his hitting streak to 10 games, and he added another RBI on a sacrifice fly in the eighth. Butler is batting .382 since Aug. 16.
Jeff McNeil’s two-run homer in the ninth cut the deficit to 8-5 and forced Texas to turn to closer Jacob Latz, who finished the game.
The Rangers now have a chance to complete a season-series victory over the Athletics in Wednesday’s finale. Texas has not lost a season series to the franchise since 2021.
