Tyler Guyton and Nate Thomas Battle for Cowboys’ Starting Left Tackle Position

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have one of their most important position battles taking shape during OTAs and heading into training camp: the competition for the starting left tackle job.

Second-year offensive lineman Tyler Guyton and rookie Nate Thomas are both getting opportunities to prove they deserve the responsibility of protecting the quarterback’s blind side.

Guyton entered the NFL with high expectations after being selected in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. While flashes of his athleticism and potential were evident during his rookie season, consistency remains the key as he looks to lock down the position heading into 2026.

Thomas, meanwhile, has quickly caught the attention of coaches with his work ethic, physicality, and willingness to compete. The rookie understands the challenge ahead but has embraced the opportunity to push for playing time early in his NFL career.

For Dallas, the left tackle position is critical to the success of the offense. The player who wins the job will be tasked with protecting the quarterback against some of the league’s premier pass rushers while helping establish the running game.

As training camp approaches, the competition is expected to intensify. Every practice rep, preseason snap, and evaluation period will matter as the Cowboys coaching staff determines who gives the offensive line the best chance to succeed.

While Guyton may enter camp with the edge due to his experience and draft pedigree, Thomas has made it clear he intends to challenge for the role every step of the way.

One thing is certain: the battle for Dallas’ starting left tackle position will be one of the most closely watched storylines of the summer.

Who do you think should win the Cowboys’ starting left tackle job—Tyler Guyton or Nate Thomas?
