FRISCO, Texas — 100 minutes of play, ending in a 2-2 draw after neither FC Dallas, nor the LA Galaxy, could score a match winner.
Petar Musa struck first: it took just seven minutes for the striker to find the back of the net for the Hoops, when Galaxy centerback Maya Yoshida made an errant pass backwards at midfield—Musa pounced on it, and put it past goalkeeper JT Marcinkowski, who tried to meet him at the top of the 18-yard-box.
It counts as Musa’s eighth goal of the season; he’s now had at least one goal or assist in five consecutive matches.
He almost had his ninth goal of the season in the 21st minute, but Musa’s chance was called offside.
A yellow card was given to defender Sebastien Ibeagha after tripping LA’s Gabriel Pec, just a few minutes after Pec’s free kick—awarded after Osaze Urhoghide’s foul—was saved by FCD GK Michael Collodi.
In the 38th minute, striker Logan Farrington worked his magic in the middle before kicking it out wide left to midfielder Christian Cappis, who then crossed a laser through to a sliding Musa for the 2-nil lead.
It was Musa’s official ninth goal of the season, and an amendment to his earlier offside goal. Cappis’ assist was his first goal contribution of the season; Farrington was also credited with the second assist.
The Galaxy answered with its first goal five minutes later, when midfielder Lucas Sanabria slotted it through from the top of the box to beat Collodi near post.
And then LA scored another—attacker Joseph Paintsil blasted it top bins to even the score before heading into the half.
A scoreless second half was not without exciting opportunities for both sides.
Soon into the half, Klauss would be replaced after being helped off the field with an injury.
“Whether he left the game or not, we were going extra aggressive,” head coach Eric Quill said. “We didn’t want to tie, no matter who was leaving [the field].”
Quill followed that up and said he hopes the injury is better than what they were thinking after seeing it.
10 minutes into the second half, Paintsil, on a through ball, was nearly home free to score LA’s third goal to take the lead, but he fired it too far right off frame to capitalize on the run.
Kaick’s go-ahead strike was negated by an offside flag in the 73rd minute—FCD finishing with six offsides called on the night.
But 100 minutes later, FCD finishes this one in a draw to remain unbeaten at Toyota Stadium.
Quill said with a game this coming Wednesday night, “we can’t dwell on this too long… We need points, because these games are crucial. We can’t have ties at home.”
The Hoops will see action next on April 22, when they host Minnesota.
