SAN DIEGO — FC Dallas’ unbeaten stretch came to an end Saturday night as San Diego FC claimed a 1-0 victory, handing Dallas its first loss since May 13.
San Diego controlled much of the match, limiting Dallas’ attacking opportunities while capitalizing on the game’s lone scoring chance. FC Dallas struggled to establish possession for long stretches and was unable to find an equalizer before the final whistle.
After the match, FC Dallas head coach Eric Quill did not hide his disappointment with his team’s performance.
“They moved us around and found the goal they needed,” Quill said. “They dominated the play and unfortunately Daniel went down early, and Jonathan Sirois came in and played great for us. We let ourselves down and our fans down tonight. We’re better than this, and the guys know that. They know this wasn’t FC Dallas soccer.”
The loss snapped Dallas’ unbeaten run dating back to mid-May and serves as a setback as the club continues its push through the second half of the MLS season.
FC Dallas will have little time to regroup as it remains on the road for a second consecutive California match. Dallas travels to face the LA Galaxy on Saturday, Aug. 1, at Dignity Health Sports Park, with kickoff scheduled for 9:30 p.m. CT.
