ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers erased deficits of four runs and five runs Sunday, rallying for an 8-6 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays to close their homestand.
Texas trailed 5-1 before breaking through with four runs in the fourth inning and adding the go-ahead run in the fifth. The comeback was the Rangers’ second-largest deficit overcome this season, behind a five-run rally against San Diego on June 19.
The victory gave Texas a split of the four-game series against the American League-leading Rays and extended the Rangers’ streak to seven consecutive home series without a loss. Texas finished its homestand 4-3 and is now 40-32 at Globe Life Field this season.
Burger Powers Rangers’ Comeback
Jake Burger provided the early spark, hitting two home runs in his first two at-bats.
The multi-homer performance was Burger’s second of the season and ninth of his career. His 25 home runs now tie Joc Pederson for the Rangers’ team lead.
Burger also pushed his season RBI total to 82, surpassing his previous career high of 80 set in 2023 with the White Sox and Marlins.
Elias Díaz delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the fifth, while Ezequiel Durán added one of his three hits with a run-scoring single.
Justin Foscue continued his success against left-handed pitching, tying the game at 5 with a two-run double in the fourth.
Corey Seager provided insurance in the eighth with an opposite-field solo homer. Seager has now homered twice in his last four games and is hitting .295 since returning from the injured list July 31.
Rangers Overcome Rough Start
MacKenzie Gore struggled early, allowing five earned runs over just three-plus innings. Texas turned to Trevor Williams, who earned the win after throwing two scoreless innings and stranding an inherited runner.
Jakob Junis closed the game for his sixth save of the season.
Texas also saw a memorable debut from Rockwall native Ty Johnson, who pitched a scoreless seventh inning and recorded his first major league strikeout by fanning Evan Carter on three pitches.
Rays Let Lead Slip Away
Tampa Bay jumped ahead early but couldn’t hold its advantage. The Rays were outscored 7-2 after the fourth inning and dropped their third game in their last five.
Yandy Díaz collected two hits and an RBI, while Junior Caminero added a sacrifice fly and his 92nd RBI of the season.
Jonny DeLuca also had two hits, including an RBI single in the seventh that pulled Tampa Bay within one run.
Despite the loss, Tampa Bay remains 9-5 over its last 14 games.

The Rangers now begin a six-game road trip Tuesday night in Seattle, looking to carry the momentum from their comeback victory into the next stretch of the schedule.
