ARLINGTON, Texas — The Texas Rangers welcomed back a familiar late-inning arm on Saturday, activating veteran right-hander Chris Martin from the injured list while placing fellow right-hander Jakob Junis on the 15-day injured list.
Martin returns after missing the club’s last 30 games because of a right shoulder impingement. The 40-year-old reliever provides an experienced presence in the Rangers’ bullpen and is expected to help stabilize the back end of the relief corps as Texas continues its push through the season.
Before the injury, Martin had been one of the Rangers’ dependable bullpen options, relying on his command and ability to limit hard contact in high-leverage situations. His return gives manager Bruce Bochy another trusted veteran as the club looks to strengthen its relief pitching.
Junis lands on the 15-day injured list, creating the roster spot for Martin’s activation. The move temporarily sidelines a versatile pitcher who has contributed in multiple roles this season.
The Rangers will look for Martin to quickly regain his rhythm after more than a month away, while hoping Junis can recover and rejoin the pitching staff later this month.
