FRISCO, Texas (AP) — As the Cowboys continue offseason workouts, linebacker DeMarvion Overshown believes Dallas’ defense is beginning to take shape under new defensive coordinator Christian Parker.
“You can feel everything being put together,” Overshown said. “Everybody is doing their job, and you can see what this defense can become.”
Overshown pointed to improved communication and execution as early signs of progress as Dallas works to establish itself among the NFL’s top defenses.
The linebacker also highlighted the strong bond within the locker room, saying the relationships built through football extend far beyond the field.
“We’ve built connections that last forever,” Overshown said. “That’s what championship teams are made of.”
Fresh off his recent wedding, Overshown said there was never any question about attending offseason workouts. His focus remains on preparing for training camp and helping lead the defense.
“This is what provides for my family,” Overshown said. “Every opportunity I get to be on the field means something.”
After battling injuries in recent seasons, Overshown said he feels fully healthy entering camp.
“I feel great,” he said. “Starting healthy is already a win.”
A major development this offseason has been Overshown’s expanded role at middle linebacker. The position puts him in charge of making calls, organizing the defense and serving as a leader before each snap.
“I’m in control of everything now,” Overshown said. “I have to get everybody lined up and on the same page.”
Overshown said playing in the middle allows him to use his athleticism more freely and make plays across the field. He also credited Parker and the coaching staff for creating a clear vision and establishing accountability throughout the defense.
“There’s no gray area,” Overshown said. “Everybody knows what’s expected.”
As for outside distractions, including contract matters, Overshown is keeping his attention where it belongs.
“My job is to play football,” he said. “If I play good football, everything else will take care of itself.”
