Rangers Waste deGrom Gem, Fall 3-2 to Yankees as Skid Continues

ARLINGTON, Texas — A sharp outing from Jacob deGrom went unrewarded Tuesday night as the Texas Rangers dropped a 3-2 decision to the New York Yankees at Globe Life Field, extending their recent slide.

Texas has now lost three straight and five of its last seven, slipping to 14-16 on the season — its first time two games under .500 in 2026. The defeat also locked in a series loss to New York, marking the Rangers’ first home series defeat to the Yankees since 2021.

Despite out-hitting New York 7-5, Texas couldn’t deliver in key moments. The Rangers went just 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position and stranded 10 men on base. Over their last three games, they are hitting a combined .085 (4-for-47), scoring in only four of 27 innings during that stretch.

DeGrom (2-1) was efficient and dominant outside of the opening frame, allowing just one run over six innings on three hits with no walks and five strikeouts. His lone blemish came in the first inning, when Cody Bellinger drove in a run with a double after a two-out single by Aaron Judge. From there, deGrom retired 11 straight at one point and logged three perfect innings. He lowered his ERA to 2.01, but still absorbed the loss — another example of minimal run support overshadowing elite work.

Offensively, Josh Jung continued his hot stretch, going 2-for-4 to extend his hitting streak to eight games. He also drove in a run in the ninth inning. Jung has been one of the few bright spots for Texas in April, hitting .388 for the month.

Corey Seager added a double and a walk, accounting for the club’s only extra-base hit until late, but the lineup as a whole struggled to string together timely production.

New York, meanwhile, continues to surge. The Yankees improved to 20-10, becoming the first American League club to reach 20 wins this season. They’ve now won 10 of their last 11 games and secured their fourth consecutive series victory.

Right-hander Cam Schlittler earned the win with six scoreless innings, striking out eight while working around a pair of walks. He lowered his ERA to 1.51, among the best marks in the league.

The Yankees broke through late against the Texas bullpen. Austin Wells launched a solo homer in the seventh inning, and Judge delivered the decisive blow in the ninth, crushing a go-ahead home run — his third in as many games and 12th of the season, tying him for the MLB lead.

Texas showed life in the ninth but came up short again, continuing a trend that has defined this recent stretch: strong pitching, limited offense, and missed opportunities.

The Rangers, now 4-5-1 in series play this season, will look to regroup quickly as their early-season inconsistency continues to mount.
