PHOENIX — The Dallas Wings saw their six-game winning streak come to an abrupt end Monday night, falling 87-86 to the Phoenix Mercury at Mortgage Matchup Center.
Dallas appeared to have control for much of the night, building a lead as large as 14 points and taking a 74-63 advantage early in the fourth quarter. But Phoenix mounted a late comeback behind Kahleah Copper, who scored 16 of her 31 points in the final period.
Copper delivered the decisive play with 2.4 seconds remaining, scoring on a backdoor layup after Alyssa Thomas found her along the baseline. The Wings had one final opportunity, but Paige Bueckers’ desperation 3-point attempt at the buzzer missed the rim.
Bueckers finished with 30 points and seven assists, while Jessica Shepard added 17 points and 19 rebounds. Bueckers’ performance also moved her to 853 points for the season, setting a new Dallas franchise record for points in a season.
Thomas posted 15 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds for Phoenix, recording her fifth triple-double of the season.
The loss dropped Dallas to 26-17 and snapped its longest winning streak of the season. The Wings will close out the regular season Wednesday at Seattle.
