DALLAS — The Dallas Stars continued their strong start to the preseason Monday night, defeating the St. Louis Blues 2-1 at American Airlines Center to improve to 2-0 in exhibition play.
Thomas Harley opened the scoring in the first period, beating Blues goaltender Joel Hofer with a shot from the point. Jason Robertson assisted on the goal.
The Blues eventually broke through in the third period, but Dallas had already built enough of a cushion to hold on for the victory. Casey DeSmith was sharp in net for the Stars, stopping 30 of 31 shots.
Dallas also received strong performances from several players competing for roster spots as the preseason moves toward its final stages. The Stars are scheduled to face the Minnesota Wild twice this week before opening the regular season against St. Louis on Oct. 2.
The victory gives Dallas a second consecutive win over the Blues after opening the preseason with a 2-1 victory in St. Louis on Saturday.
For a Stars team using the preseason to evaluate lineup combinations and younger players, the two-game sweep provides another positive step heading into the final week of preparation.
