DALLAS — SMU turned Saturday into a statement from the opening whistle.
The Mustangs scored 42 first-half points and rolled past UC Davis 56-10, piling up 547 total yards while holding the Aggies to 233.
Quarterback Kevin Jennings led the offensive surge, throwing for 337 yards in the first half alone as SMU built a commanding 42-0 advantage. It marked the first time since Preston Stone threw for 332 yards against Navy in 2023 that an SMU quarterback surpassed 300 passing yards in a half.
Jennings also moved into the top spot in SMU history for total offense, surpassing Ben Hicks’ previous program record of 8,977 yards. Jennings now has 9,073 career total yards.
The Mustangs continued to spread the ball around throughout the afternoon. A program-record 16 different players caught at least one pass, surpassing the previous mark of 13 receivers set against Tulsa in 2023.
Derrick McFall was one of the biggest contributors, finishing with 103 all-purpose yards. He broke loose for a 52-yard touchdown reception from Jennings and added 46 rushing yards.
Theo Melin Ohrstrom caught two touchdown passes, while Yannick Smith added a 44-yard scoring reception. Smith has now caught a touchdown of at least 40 yards in consecutive games.
SMU also got touchdowns from Kendrick Raphael, Randy Pittman, Zack Turner and Aljour Miles II. Ty Hawkins threw the final two touchdown passes of the game, both the first career scoring passes of his career.
The Mustangs produced eight explosive plays of at least 20 yards and finished with 454 passing yards and 93 rushing yards.
Defensively, SMU limited UC Davis to just 62 rushing yards and forced two turnovers. Jarvis Lee intercepted a pass late in the second quarter, while Jaylen Moses recovered a fumble.
SMU also recorded six tackles for loss, including two sacks.
The performance marked SMU’s second consecutive game with more than 500 total yards and the first time since 2023 the Mustangs have accomplished that feat in consecutive games.
The Mustangs improved to 40-16 under coach Rhett Lashlee and 22-4 at home during his tenure.
SMU now turns its attention to its first road test of the season.
The Mustangs travel to Louisville next Saturday for a 2:30 p.m. CT kickoff at L&N Federal Credit Union Stadium.
