FRISCO, Texas — Petar Musa continues to make his case as one of the most dangerous forwards in Major League Soccer.
The FC Dallas striker was named to the MLSsoccer.com Team of the Matchday Starting XI for Matchday 24 after playing a starring role in Dallas’ wild 4-3 comeback victory over Sporting Kansas City at Toyota Stadium.
The honor is Musa’s fifth Team of the Matchday Starting XI selection of the 2026 season, another recognition for a forward who has consistently delivered when FC Dallas has needed him most.
Musa scored twice Saturday night, including the decisive penalty kick deep into second-half stoppage time. His 18th goal of the season moved him into a tie with Lionel Messi atop the MLS Golden Boot race at the time and matched the FC Dallas single-season scoring record.
But Musa’s biggest contribution came after FC Dallas had fallen behind 2-0 early.
Sporting Kansas City struck in the fourth and 20th minutes, putting Dallas in a difficult position in front of its home crowd. The response was immediate.
Logan Farrington pulled Dallas within a goal in the 27th minute before Musa leveled the match three minutes later, heading Bernard Kamungo’s cross into the net.
Kaick then completed Dallas’ first-half comeback with a goal in the 45th minute, sending FC Dallas into halftime with a 3-2 advantage.
Sporting Kansas City refused to go away.
Taylor Calheira scored his second goal of the night in the 78th minute to make it 3-3, setting up a frantic finish.
Then came Musa.
FC Dallas was awarded a penalty in the seventh minute of stoppage time after Musa was brought down near the edge of the penalty area following a VAR review. Musa calmly converted from the spot to give Dallas all three points.
The goal was his 18th of the season and his second of the night.
Musa’s production has been a major part of FC Dallas’ success throughout 2026. He has now tied the club’s single-season record for goals, joining Jason Kreis, Kenny Cooper and Jesús Ferreira at 18.
The victory was particularly meaningful for FC Dallas, which returned to Toyota Stadium after nearly four months away from its home field because of ongoing renovations. The club had played 11 consecutive road matches before finally returning to Frisco.
Now Musa has another piece of individual recognition to add to an already impressive season.
His fifth Team of the Matchday Starting XI selection reinforces just how central he has become to FC Dallas’ attack — and with the postseason race tightening, Dallas will continue to rely heavily on its leading scorer.
For Musa, Saturday night was another reminder that when the game is on the line, he wants the ball.
And once again, he delivered.
