HOUSTON, Texas — Jake Burger delivered his biggest swing of the night early and never slowed down, powering the Texas Rangers to an 8-0 victory over the Houston Astros on Sunday behind another dominant outing from Nathan Eovaldi.
Burger crushed a home run and finished with four RBIs as Texas backed Eovaldi with one of its most complete performances of the season. The Rangers jumped on Houston pitching quickly and never allowed the Astros to gain momentum.
Eovaldi continued his strong stretch on the mound, keeping Houston’s lineup quiet with sharp command and efficient work deep into the game. The veteran right-hander attacked the strike zone from the opening inning and consistently worked ahead in counts, helping Texas secure the shutout win.
The Rangers’ offense stayed aggressive throughout the afternoon, adding pressure with timely hitting and extra-base power. Burger’s bat led the way, but Texas also received production throughout the lineup as the club created scoring chances in multiple innings.
Houston struggled to generate offense against Eovaldi and the Rangers’ bullpen, managing little hard contact while being shut out for the series finale.
The victory gave Texas added momentum heading into its upcoming road trip after closing the weekend with one of its strongest all-around performances against a division rival.
Up next, the Rangers open a three-game series Monday night in Colorado. Left-hander MacKenzie Gore (3-3, 4.50 ERA) is scheduled to take the mound for Texas in the series opener against the Rockies.
