COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Dallas Renegades ran into resistance for the first time this season, falling 28-14 to the Columbus Aviators on Saturday night in a game that exposed cracks on both sides of the ball.
Despite the loss, Dallas remains in a solid position at 3-1, though the Aviators controlled the tempo early and never fully let the Renegades settle into rhythm.
Quarterback Austin Reed finished 13 of 27 for 144 yards and two touchdowns, adding a season-high 41 yards on the ground. His mobility provided a spark at times, but stalled drives and inconsistent protection limited Dallas’ offensive flow.
Wide receiver Drake Stoops delivered one of the brighter moments for the Renegades, hauling in his first touchdown of the season. He also paced the team in all-purpose production with 79 yards, showing versatility in a night where explosive plays were hard to come by.
On the ground, Dae Dae Hunter led the rushing attack with 45 yards, highlighted by a 22-yard burst early that briefly gave Dallas momentum. However, the run game struggled to sustain drives as the Aviators tightened their front.
Receiver Tyler Vaughns remained a consistent target, leading the team for the fourth consecutive game with five receptions for 59 yards. Still, Dallas lacked the downfield explosiveness needed to flip field position.
Defensively, linebacker J.T. Tyler anchored the effort with 11 total tackles, including three solo stops. The unit showed flashes but had difficulty containing Columbus during key stretches, particularly in the second half.
Dallas will look to regroup after its first loss of the season, with adjustments needed to regain the balance and efficiency that fueled its early success.
