Cowboys Finish Off Preseason In Dallas Against the Seahawks In Final Dress Rehearsal

FRISCO, TEXAS – The Dallas Cowboys are back in AT&T Stadium for their third and final preseason game on Friday night at 7 PM against the Seattle Seahawks. The Cowboys are 1-1 in their first two preseason games coming back from a penalty party loss to Denver, beating the Chargers 32-18 last week.

We saw much improvement from the first preseason game to the second preseason game, penalties being the most obvious. Dallas had 17 penalties in the first game and cut it down to 8.

Another area of improvement was the offense. Dallas came close to a shutout against Denver before getting on the board in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. In Saturday’s game against the Chargers, QB Will Grier did a great job finding the openings and the Cowboys scored four touchdowns, three of them being in the second quarter. Grier ended the game throwing 6-of-10 for 98 yards while Cooper Rush threw 3-of-6 for 32 yards.

Head Coach Mike McCarthy said on Tuesday night before Cowboy’s practice that he wants to see Grier play as much as possible in Friday night’s game. He stated that Rush will also play but he wants a big chunk of the game to be Grier.

There was also talk about possibly having the starters play in the third and final preseason game of the year and McCarthy said he wants to give the time to the younger guys and see them play.

When asked about Jalen Tolbert and how he has progressed McCarthy said that he had his best practice yet on Monday night. He stated that he thinks the younger guys just need to get some games under their belt and learn.

Tyler Smith did not practice Monday or Tuesday due to a slight ankle sprain. McCarthy said that it’s nothing serious and they are monitoring the situation. Smith struggled in the first two games when it came to penalties and that’s something Dallas is looking at. McCarthy told us before practice that if the Cowboys played tomorrow Connor McGovern (Smith’s competition) would be starting in the left guard position.

I think everyone is thinking the same thing. What is Kavontae Turpin going to do on Friday? Don’t lie, we are all thinking it. Turpin told us after practice on Tuesday night that he shocked the world and an athlete of his size is not usually taken seriously in the NFL. He said he’s just trying to keep a level head and stay humble. Turpin said that the biggest surprise that he got was when he saw the NFL Twitter put “Don’t kick the ball to Kavontae Turpin” in the bio. Turpin sits at 5’9 and 155 lbs. He said he uses his size to hide behind the blockers when need be and for speed to get away from defenders.
