Wings Unable To Secure Home Win In Loss To Mercury

ARLINGTON, TX- The Dallas Wings were unsuccessful in securing another win in tonight’s 83-72 loss to Phoenix Mercury.

Mercury’s Skylar Diggins-Smiths (26 points) and Diana Taurasi (18 points) overpowered The Dallas Wings in Saturday night’s loss. Arike Ogunbowale had 25 points, followed by Isabelle Harrison 15 points and 10 rebounds, which wasn’t enough to withhold Phoenix.

Dallas dominated the first quarter and set the tone as The Wings led by ten to end the quarter. Isabelle Harrison responded in the second quarter with quick shots and contributed on both offense and defense. Harrisons had 8 points in the second quarter but was outshot by Diggins with 11 points, giving Mercury a chance to come within one.
Dallas leads going into halftime 45-44.

The second half of the game was scoreless until almost three minutes in when Arike Ogunbowale makes the first layup in the third quarter. Diana Taurasi was later given the technical free throw shot which seemed like a spark for Phoenix. Mercury outshot the Wings in the third quarter, giving them the lead entering the fourth.

It was then an uphill battle for Dallas as Skylar Diggins-Smith and her team closed out the Wings in the last quarter with the shocking upset of 83-72.

The Wings had a better shooting percentage in the game at 43.3% but were hit with more turnovers and a mediocre free-throw shooting percentage, giving this game to Phoenix.

Coach Vickie Johnson and the team will head to Minnesota on Monday where they will face the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday, June 28th.
