DALLAS — The Dallas Stars opened the season with a 4-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues on Friday at American Airlines Center.
Dallas struggled to generate consistent offense against a Blues team that pressured the puck and disrupted the Stars’ breakouts. St. Louis controlled much of the opening period before Dallas found more possession and offensive-zone pressure in the second.
“We just couldn’t score,” Stars forward Roope Hintz said.
Coach Glen Gulutzan said Dallas needed to be stronger in puck battles and quicker getting the puck into dangerous areas.
“We have to get a little greasier in those hard areas early on,” Gulutzan said.
Goaltender Joel Hofer stopped everything Dallas sent his way to earn the shutout. Blues forward Mason McTavish scored in his first game with St. Louis, helping establish an early advantage.
Tyler Seguin, returning from injury, said the game initially felt fast but became more comfortable as it progressed.
“It’s one game and let’s get ready for tomorrow,” Seguin said.
Despite the loss, Miro Heiskanen reached a franchise milestone, passing John Klingberg for 15th-most games played by a Stars defenseman with 553.
Justin Hryckowian also went 8-for-8 on faceoffs, becoming the first NHL player to accomplish that mark since Brady Tkachuk on March 18, 2026.
The Stars will look to bounce back quickly. Dallas will play the Nashville Predators in Nashville on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 7 p.m. CT.
