FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Stars are bringing back their captain for another season.

The club announced Friday that Jamie Benn has signed a one-year contract for the 2026-27 season. The deal carries an $850,000 base salary and includes up to $1.15 million in performance bonuses.

The agreement keeps Benn in Dallas for his 18th NHL season. He has spent his entire career with the franchise after being selected in the fifth round of the 2007 NHL Draft.

Benn continued to play an important role during the 2025-26 season. He appeared in 60 regular-season games and recorded 15 goals with 21 assists for 36 points. Injuries limited his availability, but he remained one of the team’s veteran leaders.

The 37-year-old has worn the captain’s “C” since the 2013-14 season. During that span, he has helped lead the Stars through multiple playoff runs while establishing himself as one of the franchise’s all-time greats.

Benn’s career résumé includes an Art Ross Trophy, awarded to the NHL’s leading scorer in the 2014-15 season. He has also earned multiple NHL All-Star selections and ranks among the organization’s career leaders in games played, goals, assists, and points.

The one-year deal also gives Dallas valuable salary cap flexibility. At the same time, it keeps one of the NHL’s most respected leaders in the locker room.

With training camp approaching, the Stars will again rely on Benn’s experience and leadership. Dallas enters the 2026-27 season with Stanley Cup expectations, and the return of its longtime captain provides stability for a veteran roster chasing another championship.
