Cowboys Explore Versatility with Fourth-Round Pick Drew Shelton

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys are already looking ahead when it comes to maximizing the potential of fourth-round draft pick Drew Shelton.

Shelton, an offensive lineman out of Penn State, anchored the left tackle position throughout his college career. But as he begins his transition to the NFL, questions about positional flexibility have quickly followed—something the Cowboys appear open to exploring.

Speaking after being selected, Shelton acknowledged that conversations with Dallas included the possibility of moving around along the offensive line, including a potential shift to the right side.

That kind of versatility is often key at the next level, especially for a Cowboys offensive line unit looking to maintain depth and adaptability heading into the season. While Shelton’s experience has primarily come protecting the blindside, the adjustment to right tackle—or even other spots—could increase his chances of seeing the field early.

Dallas has long valued linemen who can play multiple positions, and Shelton fits that mold as a developmental piece with upside. His size, technique, and experience in a high-level college program give the Cowboys a foundation to build on as they evaluate where he fits best.

For now, Shelton’s focus remains simple: learn the system, earn his role, and prove he can contribute—wherever he’s needed.
