ARLINGTON, TX — Michael Helman’s first career grand slam powered the Rangers to a 5-0 win over the MLB-leading Brewers, snapping a six-game skid vs. Milwaukee and pulling Texas within 3.5 games of the AL West lead.
Helman drove in all five runs, adding an RBI double in the seventh to cap a career night. The grand slam was Texas’ first of the season and just the eighth ever by a Ranger on an 0-2 pitch in the pitch-tracking era.
Jacob Latz delivered 5.2 shutout innings, facing the minimum through four and lowering his ERA to 2.91. Texas improved to 4-2 in his starts.
José Quintana held Texas hitless through four before unravelling in the fifth. He allowed five earned runs over 6.2 innings, including Helman’s slam—just the fifth of his career.
The Brewers were blanked for the 11th time this year and couldn’t reach 35 games over .500 for the first time in club history.
Texas has now won 12 of its last 16 and owns the best MLB record since August 22.
