TCU vs. Southern Miss Preview

FORT WORTH, TX – TCU (1-0) will continue its three-game homestand by welcoming Southern Miss (1-1) to Schollmaier Arena in hopes to prove their strength this season after Thursday’s home opener.

Despite the season-opening win, Coach Dixon said the team had a lot to work on as the Horned Frogs looked far from perfect Thursday, completing the game with 18 turnovers and trailing behind McNeese State early in the first half.

“We see there isn’t much separation with these guys, but, you know, when the lights came on, you saw some different things, and that’s what we have to see, and work with, and grow with,” Dixon said. “This is our starting point, and in no way did I think we’d be great tonight. I thought we’d be better, but we weren’t, so we’ll get to work on it.”

As a team, TCU struggled to find a rhythm; individually, the Horned Frogs looked promising. Mike Miles led in scoring with 22 points, Chuck O’Bannon with 10 and Francisco Farabello with 9 for the Frogs.

Not only did the returning faces look poised in their positions, but the newcomers played a role, as well.

Transfer Emanuel Miller completed the game with 12 points and 13 rebounds, freshman Eddie Lampkin with 8 points and 6 rebounds, and Damion Baugh with 6 points, 1 rebound and 3 assists before leaving the game for injury.

Like TCU, Southern Miss is coming off of a rocky 2020-21 campaign and used the offseason for roster rebuilding with transfers and first-year recruits.

This season, the Golden Eagles are 1-1 after coming off of a 66-45 loss to Louisiana. Forward transfer Isaih Moore scored 19 points and was 7 for 11 against the Ragin’ Cajuns and guard Tae Hardy scored 14 points Friday.

The Horned Frogs are 4-2 in only six meetings against the Golden Eagles, the last meeting being in 2004 where TCU defeated Southern Miss 42-17.

Tipoff against the Golden Eagles is set for 7 p.m. in the Schollmaier. The game will be available to for livestream on ESPN+.
