KANSAS CITY, MO. — The Rangers dropped their series opener to the Royals, 4-3, as Kansas City used three home runs to do the damage.

Jack Leiter (7-7) gave up two of those blasts and three runs total in 3 2/3 innings. Mike Yastrzemski led off the game with a solo shot, Vinnie Pasquantino added a two-run homer in the third, and Maikel Garcia hit another in the fifth.

Texas fought back with RBI singles from Jonah Heim and Evan Carter, plus a Rowdy Tellez groundout in the eighth, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

Michael Wacha (8-9) limited the Rangers to two runs over 5 2/3 innings, and Carlos Estévez closed it out with his 32nd save. Texas, now 62-62, will try to even the series Tuesday.
