DALLAS, TEXAS — SMU Men’s Basketball started American Athletic Conference play Wednesday, Jan. 1 with a 82-64 victory over University of South Florida.

USF won the tip and got on the board first, but after the first 3 minutes it was all SMU. The Mustangs shot the 3 well in the first half and took a 16-point lead to the break.

The Mustangs kept control and added on their lead throughout the 2nd half.

Junior Forward, Isiaha Mike had an outstanding day. Mike led the Mustangs in scoring, with 24 points. He got SMU out to a comfortable lead early on by establishing the 3, opened up the paint quickly. The outing put Mike well beyond what he needed to keep his streak of scoring 10+ points each game alive. The streak began in the Mustangs first game, now at 12 in a row.

The Mustangs are back in action on Saturday, Jan. 4, finishing their non conference competition at Vanderbilt. They’ll be back home in Moody Coliseum to continue AAC competition on Wednesday, Jan. 8th vs. UCF.
