SMU MBB Open Conference Play Against USF

DALLAS, TEXAS — SMU Men’s Basketball opens American Athletic Conference play against the University of South Florida.

Head Coach, Tim Jankovich and the Mustangs are off to a 9-2 start, with losses only to Georgia and Georgetown. They started the year 8-0, won the Southwestern Showdown Tournament and took Georgia to double overtime on the road.

SMU Sophomore Forward, Feron Hunt recently earned The American Weekly Honor Roll for the 2nd time so far this season, with his 18-point, 7-rebound performance against Georgia State on Dec. 23. Hunt enters AAC play shooting 59.1%, which ranks him 4th in the conference in scoring efficiency. Hunt was also named to the Southwestern Showdown All-Tournament team early in the season.

SMU has been consistently strong on the boards, having out rebounded 9 of their 11 opponents. The Mustangs rank 2nd in the AAC and 21st nationally in rebound margin, at more than +8.

During Jankovich’s most recent post game press conference, he praised AAC Men’s basketball as a whole, acknowledging how strong the conference is from top to bottom. He said the AAC Men’s basketball teams they will play are well coached and strong defensively.

As for his team, Jankovich said he and his team want to win an AAC Championship this year. “I feel good, we’re still not the team that we can become, there’s a lot of room for improvement, and I hope that we are good at accelerating that,” Janovich said, “but I like our team.”

Tip off at Moody Coliseum will be at 4 pm CT.
