DALLAS — Roope Hintz came through when the Dallas Stars needed him most, scoring the tying goal in the final two minutes of regulation before completing the comeback with an overtime winner against the Winnipeg Jets.

Hintz struck with two minutes remaining in the third period to erase the deficit, then buried the game-winner 3:47 into overtime to secure a dramatic victory for Dallas. The overtime goal was the seventh of his NHL career, tying him with teammate Thomas Harley for fourth in franchise history.

It was a standout night for Hintz, who recorded his first two-goal performance since Jan. 31, 2025, against Vancouver. His overtime winner was his first since Nov. 11, 2025, against Ottawa.

Dallas continued to demonstrate its defensive consistency while finding a way to generate offense late. The matchup marked the eighth time in 10 games this season that the Stars held an opponent to two goals or fewer.

The penalty kill also delivered when called upon, shutting down all four Winnipeg power plays. Dallas has now killed eight consecutive penalties over its past two games, accomplishing the feat without defenseman Esa Lindell in the lineup.

The Stars generated 38 shots on goal, their highest single-game total since recording 39 against Columbus on Feb. 2, 2025.

Robertson Reaches 500 Career Points

Jason Robertson added a milestone to the victory, recording an assist on Wyatt Johnston’s goal to reach 500 career regular-season points.

Robertson achieved the mark in his 466th game, making him the fourth-fastest player in franchise history to reach the milestone, according to NHL statistics. Only Neal Broten (461 games), Bobby Smith (463) and Dino Ciccarelli (465) reached the mark faster.

The California native also became the seventh-fastest U.S.-born player to reach 500 points and the 13th player in franchise history to record 500 points with the organization. He joins Toronto Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews as the only California-born players in NHL history to reach the milestone.

Mikko Rantanen contributed two assists, extending his point streak against Winnipeg to five games. Defenseman Miro Heiskanen also recorded an assist, extending his streak of games with a point against the Jets to four.

Stars Stay Patient Through Offensive Frustration

Dallas head coach Glen Gulutzan credited his team’s effort while acknowledging a second period in which the Stars became less disciplined in their execution.

“I thought that our guys played pretty hard,” Gulutzan said. “Good hockey game, but our guys played really hard. We were pretty good all night. Just got a little sloppy in the second.”

Gulutzan also pointed to the importance of remaining composed when scoring opportunities fail to produce goals, particularly against a goaltender playing well.

That patience paid off late in the game.

Johnston, who scored his first goal of the season, said Dallas has remained committed to its approach despite a challenging start offensively.

“They haven’t been coming that easy, but I think we’ve done a great job the last two games just sticking with it,” Johnston said. “Especially in those third periods, we have been really good down a goal.”

Johnston praised Rantanen’s ability to create offense in critical moments, describing the forward as a difference-maker whose vision and playmaking can change a game.

Hintz echoed that assessment of the team’s performance, believing Dallas had generated enough opportunities to win before finally breaking through.

“We were the better team today,” Hintz said. “We had a lot of chances before but we just didn’t score on their goalie.”

Rather than allowing missed opportunities to derail the effort, the Stars continued pressing until Hintz delivered the decisive goals.

Robertson said the team remains confident that improved execution on passes, shots and rush opportunities will lead to more consistent offensive production.

A Comeback Built on Persistence

For Dallas, the victory offered another example of the importance of staying engaged when goals are difficult to find. The Stars combined a strong penalty kill, sustained offensive pressure and two clutch finishes from Hintz to turn a late deficit into an overtime win.

With Robertson reaching a significant career milestone and the team continuing to limit opponents’ scoring opportunities, Dallas left the ice with both a hard-earned victory and momentum to build on.
