FRISCO, Texas — Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Kenny Clark believes the path toward a more consistent defense begins with winning the battle at the line of scrimmage.
Speaking with reporters, Clark pointed to improved run defense as a key factor in the unit’s recent progress, emphasizing that stopping opponents on the ground creates more favorable passing situations and gives Dallas a better opportunity to get off the field on third down.
“It all started right there with the run game,” Clark said, describing the importance of executing the defensive approach the team emphasized throughout the week.
Clark also discussed recording his first sack, crediting a quick swim move he had worked on during practice. Getting that first sack was an encouraging milestone, but the veteran defensive lineman said his focus has already shifted toward building on the performance.
“Now it’s just about building,” Clark said.
The Cowboys now turn their attention to a critical NFC East matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday Night Football, Oct. 26. With the division race still offering opportunities, Dallas will look to carry its improved preparation into one of its most important games of the season.
Clark acknowledged the team’s disappointing position through the first six games but stressed that the Cowboys cannot afford to rely on other teams’ struggles within the division to keep their postseason hopes alive.
“Everything is in front of us,” Clark said. “We still got to be urgent.”
For Clark, the priority is improving execution, preparing with greater consistency and translating the work done during the week into results on game day.
The defensive tackle said players must hold themselves accountable and find ways to elevate their individual performances as Dallas looks to build momentum.
“I’ve been telling myself I want more for myself. I gotta give more,” Clark said. “We all gotta give more.”
The message reflects the urgency surrounding a Cowboys team searching for consistency on both sides of the ball. Against Philadelphia, Dallas will need to apply pressure, strengthen its run defense and make the critical stops that can swing a divisional showdown.
For Clark and the Cowboys, the challenge is turning better preparation into sustained production when the lights are brightest.
