Dak Prescott Focused on Houston as Cowboys Put Week 3 Loss Behind Them

FRISCO, Texas — The Dallas Cowboys have spent the week dissecting their Week 3 loss. Now, Dak Prescott wants the team to leave it there.

Prescott acknowledged that the Cowboys made mistakes in the closing moments, including decisions that ultimately kept them from finishing the game. But after reviewing the film and having conversations with the coaching staff, Prescott said the team has addressed what happened and is ready to move forward.

The quarterback emphasized that accountability, not blame, has been the focus.

“You debrief, you be honest, hold each other accountable, and you be accountable to your own doings,” Prescott said.

Prescott said those conversations are important because mistakes are inevitable over the course of a season. What matters is how quickly a team identifies them, learns from them and prevents them from becoming a larger issue.

That mindset has also carried into the Cowboys’ latest defensive addition.

Prescott said he was excited when he learned Dallas had acquired cornerback Joey Porter Jr. and was encouraged to see Porter already on the field and working with his new teammates.

Prescott has faced Porter before and knows the challenge he presents as a cornerback.

“He’s a guy that can play physical, play man to man and take a receiver away,” Prescott said.

Porter’s ability to compete at the line of scrimmage and make plays when the ball is in the air stood out to Prescott. The quarterback said having that type of defender on his own side of the football is something the Cowboys can benefit from.

The move also reinforced Prescott’s belief that Dallas is serious about improving defensively.

For years, the Cowboys have relied heavily on their offense. Prescott said the team understands that winning football requires both sides to contribute, making defensive additions particularly meaningful.

But the quarterback isn’t allowing the loss—or the changes around the team—to become a distraction.

Dallas is three games into the season, and Prescott said the Cowboys cannot afford to allow one difficult finish to fracture the confidence and chemistry inside the locker room.

“Our calling card is our brotherhood,” Prescott said.

The next test comes against Houston.

Prescott knows the Texans present a physical challenge, particularly with their pass rush. He highlighted Will Anderson Jr. and Danielle Hunter up front while also pointing to Houston’s aggressive secondary.

That will put pressure on Dallas’ offensive line and Prescott to make decisions quickly.

The Cowboys quarterback will also lean on his connection with CeeDee Lamb, which has continued to develop through experience and communication.

Prescott said the more closely the two are able to anticipate what the other is thinking, the more difficult they become to defend.

“The more that we’re exactly on the same page, the harder it is for whoever and anybody that’s trying to cover that guy,” Prescott said.

Houston may present another difficult defensive challenge, but Prescott isn’t approaching the matchup with hesitation.

He remains confident in the players around him and in the preparation that has gone into the week.

“I’m going to take our guys against anybody,” Prescott said.

The Cowboys now have an opportunity to turn the lessons from Week 3 into something tangible.

For Prescott, that starts with accountability, continues with trust and ends with finding a way to finish.
