SMU Defeats McNeese State 86-62

DALLAS, Texas — SMU Men’s Basketball opened their 2021 season on a high note, beating McNeese State 86-62. The Mustangs have won their last 10 season openers.

The Cowboys started strong at the beginning of the first half but weren’t ready for the Mustangs full court press. After the Mustangs got some turnovers and broke the Cowboys rhythm, their shots started falling and it looked like a different game. SMU took the lead half way through the first half and never trailed again.

Mustang’s Head Coach, Tim Jankovich was happy with his teams’ hustle and competitiveness. Kendric Davis led the Mustangs with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Transfers Zach Nutall (14), Tristan Clark (12) and Marcus Weathers (11) were the Mustangs other double-digit scorers.

Coach Jankovich said the Mustangs need to rebound better to have success as they travel to play at #12 Oregon on Friday.
