Cowboys Waive Antwaun Woods After Draft Acquisitions

FRISCO, Texas — Following the addition of two defensive tackles in the NFL draft, the Dallas Cowboys are waiving nose tackle Antwaun Woods to free up cap space, according to ESPN. His release comes just weeks after his restricted free agent tender signing.

With the departure of Woods, the Cowboys will save $2.1 million in cap space as a result. Woods rose up the depth chart as an undrafted free agent in Dallas and started 32 of 39 games (2018-20) played over the last three years. He accumulated 80 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and two fumble recoveries for the Cowboys during his tenure. Last season, Woods notched 33 tackles, one sack, and four quarterback pressures in seven game starts.

Dallas drafted UCLA’s Osa Odighizuwa in the third round and Kentucky’s Quinton Bohanna in the sixth round just days ago. The club also picked up free agent acquisitions Brent Urban and Carlos Watkins to boost the team’s interior. With the depth pieces in place under Dan Quinn’s leadership, Woods’ fate was sealed. His release helps the Cowboys get closer to the 90-man limit.
