TCU Looks To End The Season On A Good Note; Taking On No. 6 West Virginia For The Second Time This Season

EVANSDALE, WV — TCU (12-11) and No. 6 West Virginia (17-7) will meet on Thursday night for the second time this season.

The last time these two teams went head to head was on February 23rd. West Virginia pulled out the 74-66 win over TCU in Schollmaier Arena. Taz Sherman dropped 23 points on the Horned Frogs and Derek Culver added 18 points.

TCU played well in that matchup, they shot 49 percent from the floor and 34 percent from beyond the arc. The rebounding is what led TCU to come up short. The Horned Frogs got out rebounded 38-30 and only had three offensive rebounds compared to the 13 offensive rebounds the Mountaineers came up with.

TCU is coming into this game with a 12-11 record and have won one of four of their last five games losing their most recent to Texas Tech. TCU fell to the Red Raiders by 20 points and looked defeated from the beginning of the game.

The Horned Frogs lone double-figure scorer was RJ Nembhard. He had 10 points, four rebounds, and two assists on the night. TCU’s depth within their offense continues to give them problems. They shot 38 percent from the floor and just 23 percent from beyond the arc, shooting 4 of 17.

West Virginia is coming into this game with a 17-7 record and ranked No. 6 is the AP Top-25 Poll. The Mountaineers lost to Baylor earlier this week in an 94-89 OT game. Taz Sherman led the Mountaineers with 26 points. Miles McBride added 19 points.

West Virginia has not lost back to back games this season and have consistently bounced back from every loss. Coming into this game they have already beat TCU once and plan to do it again. TCU will have to shoot like they did in the last game against them and add boxing out into the mix. The points in the paint and rebounding is going to determine who wins this game.

Kevin Samuel had his 20th career double-double in their last matchup with 11 points and 10 rebounds. The Horned Frogs need to help Samuel under the basket and crash the boards hard, limiting the Mountaineers second chance opportunities. West Virginia won last time on second chance points, TCU will have to stop those if they want to get the victory over this top 10 team.

Tip off is set for 6:00 p.m.
