SMU Hosts 3rd Straight Southland Conference Opponent, Houston Baptist University Tonight

DALLAS, Texas — SMU hosts their 3rd straight Southland Conference opponent, Houston Baptist University, Wednesday night. SMU comes into the game 2-0, with wins over Sam Houston State and Texas A&M Corpus Cristi. HBU heads to Dallas 0-2, with loses to TCU and #18 Arizona State. This will be the 1st time SMU has faced HBU in more than 10 years.

The Huskies are lead by Ron Cottrell, in his 30th year as head coach. He’s the 5th longest tenured active coach in NCAA Men’s Basketball. Since 1990, he and the Huskies are 491-434 overall. Senior guard, Ty Dalton will be the Huskies player to watch, coming off a 19-point game at Arizona State.

The Mustangs are 40-4 in home regular season non-conference games under Tim Jankovich in his 5th year as Head Coach. Mustang’s guard, Kendrick Davis earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference weekly honor roll for his career high, 33-pt performance against Sam Houston State last week.

The Mustangs are off to a strong start offensively, with 5 players scoring in double-digits in their win over Texas A&M Corpus Cristi on Monday. Defensively they have played smart and look sharp overall, especially coming off an off season without any scrimmages or pre season match ups.
In 6 meetings, SMU has never been beaten by HBU.

Tonight’s game will have limited capacity in person attendance, as well as being available on ESPN+ and on the radio at AM 770.
