QB Dak Prescott’s “Go To” Receiver for 2018

OXNARD, Calif. – With the issues that the Dallas Cowboys had with the passing game last year, the question on everyone’s mind is who will quarterback Dak Prescott target and have chemistry with this season in 2018? Prescott has connected with several receivers during training camp in Oxnard including Michael Gallup, Allen Hurns, Cole Beasley, and Tavon Austin.

There are several on the depth chart at the WR position for Prescott to find open on the field, but when asked in an interview by Kurt Warner and Michael Irvin on who would be his “go to” guy in a critical situation, his answer was Cole Beasley.

Prescott remarked, “ for me it is Cole Beasley and it has been that way. There are times we have connected and times we haven’t…he is hard to cover in man-to-man and in zone. He can stretch the defenses well. It will be about moving him around.”

He made it pure and simple that Beasley is the veteran he will rely on in a pressure situation to throw a deep ball to or pass it off to. The Cowboys have normally just had Beasley as an inside receiver, but they are switching things up and are moving him around to fit into Prescott’s QB style. He will not be just in the slot but moving wide on the outside as well.

Beasley has been a consistent receiver for the Cowboys since his start in 2012, averaging more than 8 yards per carry every season: 8.5(2012), 9.4(2013), 11.4(2014), 10.3(2015), 11.1(2016), and 8.7(2017). No.11 has looked good at training camp on slant routes up the middle of the field and they are beginning to transition him towards the outside with passes along the sideline. He will be a weapon in the Cowboys offensive scheme in 2018 and a target for Dak Prescott.
