Rangers Edge Mariners Behind Pitching, Timely Hit

ARLINGTON, Texas — Texas leaned on dominant pitching and a clutch two-out swing to secure a 2-1 victory over Seattle on Monday night, snapping a four-game losing streak and evening its record at 5-5.

The win marked the Rangers’ first at home this season after an 0-3 start at Globe Life Field and prevented the club from matching the worst home-opening skid in franchise history.

Locked in a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning, Texas delivered the decisive blow with two outs and nobody on base. Corey Seager sparked the rally with a single and advanced on a wild pitch before Jake Burger lined a double into the gap, bringing home what proved to be the game-winning run.

Texas pitchers made the slim lead stand. Jacob deGrom was sharp in his second start of the season, allowing just one hit over five innings — a solo home run to Cal Raleigh in the first. After that, deGrom retired 14 of the next 15 hitters he faced and did not factor into the decision.

The bullpen took over from there, combining for four scoreless innings. Jalen Beeks earned the win, while the relief group continued its strong early-season form, allowing just one earned run over its last 12 innings.

Seager finished with two hits and an RBI, continuing his success against Seattle pitching, while Burger stayed hot, collecting his sixth extra-base hit of the season.

Seattle, meanwhile, managed just two hits all night. Raleigh’s first-inning homer accounted for the club’s only run as the Mariners dropped their third straight game and fifth in their last six.

Logan Gilbert turned in a quality start for Seattle, allowing two runs over six innings, but took the loss despite retiring 15 of 17 batters during one stretch.

Texas improved to 2-1 in one-run games this season, showing early signs of resilience after struggling in tight contests late last year.
