FORT WORTH, Texas — It wasn’t pretty, but it was gritty — and for TCU, that was enough.
The Horned Frogs leaned on defense, rebounding and timely execution down the stretch to pull away from West Virginia for a 60-54 victory at Schollmaier Arena. In a game where points were at a premium, TCU made the winning plays late to secure its 12th home win of the season.
The Frogs now stand 19-9 all-time against West Virginia and have taken eight of the last 10 meetings in Fort Worth under head coach Jamie Dixon. TCU has also won five straight against the Mountaineers at home and improved to 8-6 in the series in Fort Worth.
TCU shot just 34% from the field — its second-lowest mark of the season and lowest in a win — and the 60 points were a season low. But what the Frogs lacked in efficiency, they made up for on the glass.
TCU dominated the boards 39-28, including 19 offensive rebounds that matched a season high. The Frogs are now 15-2 this season when winning the rebounding battle and an impressive 155-46 under Dixon in those situations.
They also stayed disciplined defensively, committing a season-low nine fouls.
Edmonds Anchors the Effort
Xaiver Edmonds continued his late-season surge, posting 14 points and a career-high 13 rebounds for his eighth double-double of the year. Remarkably, all eight have come in the last nine games. Edmonds led TCU in rebounding for the 10th time this season and helped set the physical tone inside.
Liutauras Lelevicius provided an early spark, scoring all 14 of his points in the first half. He connected on 3 of 4 attempts from beyond the arc, marking his 10th game this season with multiple 3-pointers.
David Punch added 12 points for his 21st double-digit outing of the year, while Brock Harding chipped in 11 points and dished out six assists — the 21st time this season he has led the team in that category.
In a game defined by missed shots and grinding possessions, TCU’s late composure and dominance on the glass proved decisive. Style points weren’t available Wednesday night — but the Horned Frogs will gladly take the win.
