DALLAS, TEXAS — The Dallas Mavericks came up just short in a 101-99 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night.
Dallas’ defense stayed active, recording 11 steals — their fourth game this season with double-digit steals, one of the best defensive starts in franchise history.
Rookie Cooper Flagg continued his impressive run with 20 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 2 blocks — becoming the youngest player in NBA history to reach those numbers in a single game. It was his second 20-point outing and seventh straight game scoring in double figures.
P.J. Washington Jr. posted 15 points and 11 rebounds for his second consecutive double-double, while Daniel Gafford added 15 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks. Klay Thompson reached a milestone with his 2,000th career assist, joining just 17 players in NBA history with at least 2,000 assists and 2,000 made threes.
Naji Marshall contributed 7 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists, while Max Christie scored 12 points, extending his double-digit streak to six games.
For New Orleans, Saddiq Bey led the way with 22 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including 4-of-6 from deep.
Dallas will look to bounce back as they continue their homestand.
