DENTON, Texas — North Texas fell 63-36 to South Florida, dropping to 9-7 at home under head coach Eric Morris. Despite the loss, the Mean Green made program history by scoring 30 or more points in each of their first six games.
Quarterback Drew Mestemaker threw for 326 yards and two touchdowns, adding a rushing score but tossing three interceptions. Miles Coleman had seven catches for 101 yards and a touchdown, while Wyatt Young added 79 receiving yards and an 11-yard rushing score.
Freshman Caleb Hawkins made his first career start, and Makenzie McGill II extended UNT’s streak to five straight games with multiple rushing touchdowns.
Defensively, Will Jones II led with a career-high 10 tackles. The Mean Green defense forced two turnovers, bringing their season total to 14 — the most in the nation.
Kicker Kali Nguma stayed perfect on extra points, now 86-for-86 in his career. UNT will look to rebound next week while continuing its record-setting offensive pace.
