HOUSTON, Texas — The Rangers nearly erased a six-run deficit, but came up short in a 6-5 loss to the Astros on Tuesday night.
Texas trailed 6-0 by the fourth inning before Jonah Heim’s pinch-hit homer and RBI hits from Josh Jung and Adolis García fueled a late rally. Cody Freeman and Josh Smith also added hits in the push, but the comeback stalled in the ninth with the tying run on base.
Merrill Kelly (12-8) struggled, allowing six runs and nine hits in just over three innings. Freeman homered in the fifth, but the Rangers couldn’t overcome the early hole.
Texas has now lost three straight and sits 3.5 games behind Boston for the final AL Wild Card spot with 10 games left.
