FORT WORTH, Texas — Sonny Dykes enters his fourth year leading TCU, already cementing himself among the program’s elite with 27 wins in his first three seasons—second only to Dutch Meyer in school history.
Quarterback Josh Hoover returns after breaking the program’s single-season passing record (3,949 yards, 27 TDs) in 2024. But he’ll have a fresh group of targets this season after the departures of Jack Bech, Savion Williams, and JP Richardson to the NFL.
The run game is a major point of emphasis after averaging just 113.9 yards per game last year—Dykes’ lowest ever. Expect a more balanced approach this fall.
Defensively, safety Bud Clark leads the charge. The senior chose to return to TCU after a breakout season in coverage and sits just one interception shy of cracking the program’s top-10 all-time list.
Saturday’s home opener against No. 25 Abilene Christian marks the first meeting between the schools since 1930. TCU has won 21 of its last 23 home openers and is 18-0 vs. FCS opponents since 2001.
The game will also feature a tribute with green ribbon helmet decals for victims of the July 4 Hill Country floods and a senior day ceremony honoring 25 Frogs.
